While travelling, you must have seen milestones painted in different colours with the nearest place, along with the distance written on it. A milestone is one of a series of numbered markers placed along a road or boundary at intervals of one mile or occasionally, parts of a mile, which is placed at the side of the road. They are alternatively known as mile markers, mileposts or mileposts.
But do you know what does each colour signifies? Yes, it does and it could help you out while travelling if you are lost. Here’s what each colour of milestone indicates:
An Orange colored milestone indicates that you are heading to a rural area. These types of milestones are placed at the rural roads.
A milestone painted in Green shows that you are passing through a State highway.
Yellow-colored milestone signifies that you are passing through the National highway. It indicates National highway.
A Black colored milestone indicates that you are heading towards a big city or a district. While a white colored milestone also indicates the same.
