More than a micro-blogging site, Twitter acts as a platform for funny jokes and memes. Twitterati wasn’t done making jokes on XYZ politician, celebrity, or on a recent incident, that now, they have targeted the platform itself. Twitter recently announced their test project of doubling up their tweet character limit from 140 to 280, and the users went crazy after that. Hashtag 280 has been trending since then, and Twitter is flooded with hilarious memes and jokes.
Recently, Twitter chief executive Jack Dorsey tweeted about the trial run. In his tweet, Dorsey stated that even though the change is small, it was a big move for the Twitter as they were going to give more space to people to express themselves on the platform. He also explained that the choice of 140 characters was ‘arbitrarily based on the 160 character SMS limit’ and limited people from tweeting.
The decision had mixed reactions from the users. While few are happy that they would now be able to express more, few are upset, that they could have made much needed changes instead. With this, Twitter is in it’s funniest avatar ever.
