As per the latest reports, the Karni Sena followers gheraoed the Mumbai office of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which is chaired by lyricist and scriptwriter Prasoon Joshi, on January 12 and gave threats to protest in opposition to authorization given to director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial project Padmaavat (previously named Padmavati).
Karni Sena head Lokendra Singh Kalvi had claimed that the Central Board of Film Certification has given green signal to the release of Padmaavat with a U/A authentication and some slight cuts in spite of resistance from the counselling pane they constituted to appraise the movie’s historical precision.
The panel consisted of four historiographers from Rajasthan, who Karni Sena claimed, advised the CBFC against clearing the movie.
As a mark of protest, Karni Sena assured that Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje placed a ban on the movie in the state. Shortly, Himachal Pradesh also accompanied suit actuating Karni Sena to take their remonstrations to pan-India.
Hoards of people are projected to become part of the demonstrations all through the day. A number of demonstrators who had started assembling at the spot were under arrest.
Pointing at the Censor Board and its verdict to release the movie, Karni Sena President Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi stated, “The CBFC which has been running ever since the time of Britishers doesn’t know how to work.”
The Karni Sena has also asked for the removal of CBFC chairman.
“From the past one and a half year, we have been talking peacefully but now it is time to take up the path of aggression”, added Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi.
The Central Board of Film Certification had given the actors Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor starrer a U/A certificate and suggested several changes comprising altering the title.
Some of the major changes suggested comprise those relating to disclaimers, pertinently adding one about not lauding the practice of Sati. It has also hinted related alterations in the song Ghoomar to be suitable for the character represented.
Karni Sena associates though are not pleased with the modifications suggested.
