In the ICC Cricket World Cup, South Africa have lost 3 out of 3 and are really not doing their chances of a top four finish any good right now. Sometimes like this many fans wish that AB de Villiers was still playing. Well, the truth is, he might have been.
But here’s is the reason, why is he not playing.
According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, De Villiers was offered to come out of retirement to play for the country, but the team management rebuffed his offer. They felt that doing so would be unfair to those who had been doing well from the last one year. The veteran quit international cricket in May 2018.
De Villiers is said to have made the offer just 24 hours before South Africa’s selectors picked the 15-man squad for the World Cup.The 35-year-old is said to have spoken to captain Faf du Plessis, coach Ottis Gibson and convenor of selectors Linda Zondi, but his request was ‘not even considered’.
Fans were saddened when cricket’s Superman called it a day. His innovative strokeplay has thrilled people for over a decade and he was one of the best players across all formats.
All that’s important is that we should all focus on supporting the team at the World Cup. There is a long way to go and I believe the boys can still go all the way #ProteaFire
