Airtel becomes second-largest telecom company with 329.07 million user base, Jio remains on top

Bharti Airtel is among the oldest and successful telecom companies in India. The company was formed on July 7, 1995, and this telco has ruled the market for many years. After Jio came into the telecom sector, it tumbled established businesses of numerous other companies like Vodafone, Airtel, Idea and many more.

In a short span of two years, Vodafone-Idea has lost more than 116.13 million subscribers, which took the company to the third position. During the same period, Mukesh Ambani’s Jio expanded their user base exponentially and Bharti Airtel also managed to survive in the wave. The situation for Vodafone-Idea got so strained that they lost more subscribers in just 19 months than the entire userbase of BSNL.

According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), BSNL’s user base stood at 113.58 million till August 2018. On the other hand, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular got merged on August 31, 2018, and had a combined user base of 441.65 million. Airtel was first with 345.88 million while that of Reliance Jio was 239.23 million.

But as of now, the situation is completely changed and the numbers are quite different. Reliance Jio expanded its market growth to 382.82 million while the Airtel user base comes to 329.07 million. As of now, Reliance Jio has the maximum number of active users and it has dethroned Airtel in the race.
