Hardwork and dedication are two keys to success. In order to get succed one just needs to look above the problems and stay dedicated. Ramesh Gholap, the 2012 batch IAS officer proved that nothing in the world is unattainable if we stay committed to our goals without making any kind of excuse.
Ramesh Gholap who is currently posted in Jharkhand as Joint Secretary in Energy Department once sold bangles along with his mother after his father’s sad demise. He faced so many problems throughout his journey but decided to not to give up and made it possible.
Ramesh Gholap was also known as Ramu in his village Mahagoan in Barshi Taluka, Solapur district of Maharashtra. His father Gorakh Gholap had an cycle repair shop. His father was involved in excessive drinking and passed away when he was still a child. After his father’s sad demise his mother took charge of the family and started selling bangles. Ramesh’s left leg was affected by polio still he and his brother helped his mother with selling bangles.
As his village had just one primary school he later went to stay in Barshi with his uncle for his further education. He wanted to change his family’s condition with his education so he worked as hard as he could. Due to his poor family condition he chose to do D.Ed (Diploma in Education) . Later he also did his graduation in Arts from an open university and started working as teacher.
He was so influenced by the tehsildar so that he decided to become one and started preparing for UPSC. His mother took loan from a self group and he went to Pune to prepare for the UPSC exam, taking a leave of six months from his job. He appeared for the UPSC exams in 2010 but unfortunately didn’t make the cut.
Later he cleared the State Institute of Administrative Careers (SIAC) exam this gave him a hostel to stay in and a stipend as scholarship. And finally he cleared the UPSC examination with an all-India rank of 287, without any coaching. Ramesh Gholap is now posted in Jharkhand as Joint Secretary in the Energy Department.
