The government has made it mandatory for everyone in India to wear a mask and follow the protocols owing to the sudden spike in positive cases. In order to urge people to wear a mask and adhere to the social distancing rules, the government has imposed fines. Anyone who is caught not wearing a mask or violating any health safety guidelines will have to pay a certain amount as a penalty.
In a recent turn of events, a bride from Punjab has been fined Rs 1,000 for not wearing a mask on her wedding day. When the police questioned her about the same, she cited ‘expensive make-up’ as the reason.
According to the reports, the bride hailing from Khanna town was traveling towards a Gurudwara in Sector 8 in Chandigarh for her wedding. She was accompanied by her family members. As the Union Territory administration had announced a lockdown in the city, various nooks and corners in the city were under the surveillance of the police.
Around one kilometer away from the Gurudwara, a police team stopped the car after seeing that the bride sitting in the front seat is not wearing a mask. As per the police reports, the bride in her defense said that wearing a mask would have ruined her makeup. In fact, the bride’s family members also supported her.
However, the police team didn’t spare the bride from the penalty. She was fined Rs 1000 for not adhering to the safety norms in the wake of a health emergency.
The number of positive cases in India is increasing day by day. The sudden spike had led to a huge strain on the health system and the frontline workers.
In order to curb the spread of the infection, many state governments have either opted for complete lockdown or partial lockdown. They have also made wearing a mask and following health safety measures mandatory.
