On Saturday morning, India Meteorological Department warned through a tweet that the Cyclone Tauktae which is currently centred over Lakshadweep has intensified into a cyclonic storm. It is likely to affect Gujarat and Diu coasts this weekend.
Cyclone Tauktae, named by Myanmar, was to hit the shores of west coast this weekend. It is a very severe cyclonic storm with wind speed of 150 to 160 kmph.
“Deep depression intensified into Cyclonic Storm “Tauktae” over Lakshadweep area and adjoining southeast and east central Arabian sea: Cyclone watch for South Gujarat and Diu coasts” said IMD.
Considering the warning signs, Gujarat chief minister had conducted a meeting with coastal district officials ordering them to prepare well for the storm. The fishermen around the area are also warned about the storm’s effect. The Indian Navy has assured the state administrations for their constant support. “Indian Navy ships, aircrafts, helicopters and disaster team will render full support to the state administrations as Cyclonic Storm Tauktae approaches Western coast of India,” tweeted a Navy spokesperson।
