Food delivery is playing an increasingly important role for the company and has jumped to 65 percent of Zomato’s revenue in December from 35 percent back in January of this year. An impressive figure of reports tells that in future your ordered meals will be delivered by a drone instead of a delivery executive. The biggest online platforms like Zomato and Swiggy in India have always been in competition. And now Zomato has secured a better position.

Yesterday, Zomato said that it’s acquired that Lucknow based TechEagle Innovations which is building custom drones for commercial use. The drones will make the delivery, even faster more than anything. The deal will help Zomato to make its delivery process faster and more efficient by using TechEagle’s unmanned multi-rotor drones. Zomato and Swiggy have not made any confirmation regarding the deal and amount for it.

Meanwhile, TechEagle is a brainchild of IIT-Kanpur alumnus Vikram Singh Meena. It was founded in 2015 and for now, his startup has differentiated itself by developing unmanned aerial drones. The drone is capable of carrying up to 5 kg.

The founder of Zomato, Deepinder Goyal said, “We are currently at the early stage of aerial innovations and are taking baby steps towards building a tomorrow wherein users can expect a drone to deliver the food they ordered online.”

Some of the reports suggest that Zomato will be using TechEagle’s drones for last-mile food deliveries which will replace some of their current executives and two-wheelers. This change will be really helpful as Zomato is growing day by day and soon it seeks to expand to 100 Indian cities soon. And drones will make their work efficient on a larger scale.

Currently, Zomato is working with 75,000 thousand restaurants to deliver food in 109 cities in India. The planning to build out a network for aerial food delivery in its home country is on progress.
