On 11 July, In Manchester Indian cricket team in the semi-finale match against New Zealand were suppose to chase modest 240 runs. But, what happened at the ground shattered the dreams of Indians to uplift the World Cup 2019 trophy. The top order of Indian batsman lost their precious wickets at the starting of the match making it tough to chase the scores.

However, MS Dhoni & Ravindra Jadeja raised the hope with their play at the ground. However, the duo couldn’t succeed and with the run out of MSD at the field there was a shattering of final hope to reach to finals. If we see, MS Dhoni play was much needed that day as Indian team was going through tough time. But, Dhoni came out to bat at number 7. This has become questionable by many and people as well as former cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly are not happy with decision of Indian team coach Ravi Shastri of sending Dhoni to bat at no 7.

“Instead of Hardik, may be Dhoni coming in at No. 5 would have made a difference. Dhoni would have for sure done something and made sure on either side of him,” Master Blaster Sachin was quoted saying to one of the news channel.

“Dhoni should have batted up. You need that composure and not just his batting. He would not have allowed wickets to fall in a cluster. If Dhoni was there when Pant was batting, he would not have allowed Pant to play that shot against the breeze. You can’t have Dhoni at number seven,” Ganguly said.

New Zealand while batting first scored 239 runs at the loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs. While chasing the score, Indian team lost their top four wicket of batsmen for just 24 runs inside 10 overs. After which Ravindra Jadeja (77) and Dhoni (50) shared a 116 run seventh wicket which raised the hope to chase the score. But, at the end it was not enough and eventually India faced a 18 run defeat in a match against New Zealand and was knocked out from the semis of World Cup 2019.
