Gufi Paintal, known for playing Shakuni Mama on Mahabharat, passes away at the age of 79

Veteran actor Gufi Paintal, who was known for playing the role of Shakuni Mana in BR Chopra’s TV show Mahabharat, died on Monday morning at the age of 79. His family has confirmed his demise, which is due to age-related health issues.

In a statement to PTI, the late actor’s nephew, Hiten, stated, “Unfortunately, he is no more. He passed away at the hospital at around 9 am, His heart gave up. He passed away peacefully in his sleep.”

Gufi is survived by his son, daughter-in-law and a grandchild. The last rites will be held today at around 4 pm at a crematorium in suburban Andheri. The late actor was earlier hospitlaised as his condition got worsen.

Hiten had shared with PTI that his uncle’s health is not well due to age-related issues. This has been for a while now, but lately, the health was worsened. Gufi was admitted to hospital for seven to eight days.

Apart from Mahabharat, he also appeared in numerous TV serials such as Bahadur Shah Zafar, Kanoon, CID, Om Namah Shivay, Swarkadheesh Bhagwaan Shree Krishn, RadhaKrishn, and Jay Kaniya Lal Ki. He also portrayed some memorable roles in movies such as Suhaag, Desh Pradesh, and Dillagi.
