The Indian Medical Association (IMA), in a letter addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has requested him to provide free vaccinations to all adults. They also have asked him to make vaccination certificates compulsory for those ‘entering public spaces’ and are getting access to goods via the public distribution system.
The letter from Indian Medical Association to Prime Minister Modi reads, “As there is acute spurt of this disease as a measure to immediate break the chain, limited period continuous lockdown shall be implemented especially for all the non-essential areas like cinema, cultural and religious events, sports, etc.”
Furthermore, the letter to PM Modi reads that vaccines should be made available for free at the nearest available centers. The medical association says that the spike in the positive cases due to ‘emergent, complacent mass gathering’ without masks. The increase in the cases is also attributed to non-compliance with the health-safety measures and deterrent mutations in the ongoing viral infection.
The Indian Medical Association also advocates zero-tolerance against those not complying with the health-safety rules to curb the spread of the infection. They also showed support on increasing the availability of hospital beds, oxygen cylinders, and ‘enthusiastic engagement’ of frontline health workers, adequate health care protective gear.
With daily new positive cases being registered in India, it has become necessary for people to comply with the safety rules. According to the Health Ministry, there has been a rise of new 96,982 cases in the country in the last 24 hours.
The numbers are staggering as it may lead to a strain on the medical facility available in India. Many states are urging people to get themselves vaccinated in order to not get much affected because of the infection.
The reports state that more than 4.3 million people have gotten vaccinated in the past 24 hours which has been the highest single-day vaccination number in India so far.
