India’s First Glass Skywalk Came Up At Chenrezig Buddhist Pilgrim Site In Sikkim’s Pelling

If you have ever fantasized about walking on a glass bridge, then you don’t have to spend a lot or visit abroad to fulfill your dream because our country (India) has introduced its first-ever glass skywalk in Sikkim. Yes, the religious land of Buddhism, snow, and plush vegetation has got the country’s first-ever glass skywalk. The oh-so-stunning footbridge is located in Pelling by the slanting peaks of the lower Himalayas.

Cozied up in the middle of the wonderful Himalayas, the glass skywalk offers a stunning outlook of the Buddhist pilgrimage place. The entire compound is situated at an altitude of 7,200 feet beyond the sea level.

It got rolled out in the year 2018. The pilgrim site stocks the world’s tallest Chenrezig statue together with and the accompanying Glass Bridge, a coffee shop, and a galleria.

The skywalk was constructed with the aim to give travelers and travelers a panoramic sight of the Chenrezig figurine, the stairways reaching it, and the golden prayer wheels. The said skywalk is not for the weak-hearted as it permits guests to gaze thousands of feet below.

The project got financed and built under the management of the Sikkim’s Department of Culture and the Department of Housing Buildings and Housing.

How to reach?
Chenrezig Skywalk is located just 6-7 kms from the town named, Pelling. There are not many buses available to reach the place. But one can easily hire a taxi or hike up the bridge from the small hill town. Pelling is almost 113 km by road from the city of Gangtok. The nearby airfield is Bagdogra, which is around 160kms if you travel by road.

Timings and entry fees for the Skywalk
The new skywalk remains open from 8 am – 5 pm. It opens every day. It carries an entry charge of INR 20 for residents of Sikkim and INR 50, if you are a tourist.
