With an intention to save the environment, the Government is trying to diminish the usage of plastic across stores and other places. Due to the non-disposable plastic in our surroundings, we are confronting a lot of pollution problems and facing changes in the climate. One of the farmers from Kotumachagi village namely Veeresh Negali is trying to save the environment from the harmful plastic trash.

Veeresh is an inspirational farmer collecting plastic items from some places such as grocery stores, pan shops, and hotels. The farmer asks the store owners and hotel owners for unused trays and plastic bags. He utilizes the disposed of plastic for growing plant saplings. After collecting the plastic bags, he cleans them and fills them with mud, organic manure and grows the plants.

For making the plastic materials’ collection pretty simpler, he places empty boxes in different shops so that the sellers can place the waste plastic in it. He then brings the plastic scrap in the evening from each and every shop. He says, ‘Bottles, trays, plastic bags used to transport supari and pan masala packets, chocolate bags, and others. I collect everything.’

He further adds, ‘It is a small step from my end. My idea is to tell people that throwing away plastics is not the right option as they can be utilized. I collect hundreds of bags daily so that they don’t mix with the soil. I distribute the saplings on birthdays, marriages and school functions. Earlier, shop vendors laughed at me but they started encouraging me after a few days.’

Veeresh is doing this for more than a year until now. For this initiative as part of saving the environment, Veeresh became very famous locally. He is truly a role model for most people in the locality. His great initiative towards scrap management has obtained much admiration. Through this sort of initiative, people can help save Mother Earth by evading the use of perilous items. People are truly proud of Veeresh in the region of Karnataka.
