Legendary sprinter Milkha Singh’s condition stable and better: PGIMER hospital

Padma Shri Milkha Singh, currently undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the PGIMER hospital in Chandigarh, on Saturday was observed ‘better’, according to a statement released by the hospital.

The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) hospital said in a statement, “Flying Sikh Shri Milkha Singh Ji, being unwell due to Covid-19, has been admitted in ICU of NHE Block of PGIMER since June 3, 2021…” They added,” On the basis of all the medical parameters today, his condition has been observed better than yesterday. He is closely monitored by a team of three doctors here.”

The legendary athlete was admitted to the hospital after his oxygen level started dropping as an effect of Covid-19. Since then, he has been closely monitored by a team of three doctors at the PGIMER.

The 90-year-old’s son legendary golfer Jeev Milkha Singh confirmed of the development in Milkha’s health. He said, “Milkha Singh ji’s condition is stable and on oxygen in ICU of PGIMER hospital.”

Yesterday, the Prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, called the four time Asian Games gold medallist, to enquire about his health and expressed prayers for his better health and quick recovery to bless and inspire athletes gearing up for Tokyo Olympics this year.

Milkha Singh contracted the deadly infection on May 19, from a house help. He was earlier admitted in Fortis Hospital in Mohali in stable condition on the request of his family. He continued to be in isolation and on oxygen support before his condition deteriorated again.
