LIVING A LIFE LESS ORDINARY – A motto that our Indian Army stands by, and lives through it. Not everyone is brave enough to choose a life which is all about making sacrifices. And yet who choose, are easily forgotten. The least we can do is to thank them and keep them alive in our hearts for the sacrifices they have made for our freedom.

26th of July marks as the Kargil Vijay Diwas in which our Indian Army won the battle against Pakistan in 1999. Captain Vikram Batra was the hero who laid down his life while saving point 4875 in Kargil sector from the enemies.

Captain Vikram could have chosen an easy life. He left his lucrative job in the Merchant Navy to join our Indian Army. He was awarded Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest and most prestigious award for valour after he laid down his life in Kargil war.

“Either I will come back after hoisting the Tricolour, or I will come back wrapped in it, but I will be back for sure,” said Captain Batra who is referred to as ‘Shershah of Kargil.’

His father Girdhari Lal Batra, said to a leading daily, “Captain Vikram Batra left a message for the people of his country. He left behind his footprints to be followed by every politician, student, employee and a common man. His message was loud and clear. ‘Always put the country first’. If he wanted to come back after the triumph over point 5140 in Kargil sector, he could have come back easily. But he decided to go further, to fight more for his country and decided to capture point 4875, where he eventually attained martyrdom.”

The hero still lives in our hearts as if he was never gone. We can never show enough gratitude to the soldiers and their families for making the supreme sacrifices for us.

We appreciate that the Bollywood industry is now working towards bringing the inspiring stories of our real heroes to the audience. A biopic on Captain Batra’s life starring Siddharth Kapoor is on its way. Probably this way, the young kids would know about the valour of our soldiers and the sacrifices they have made and are still making to make our lives secured.
