Majiziya Bhanu, 23-year-old commoner girl who was just a dental student from a small town named Orkatteri in Kozhikode district of Kerala. And today, the lady has become a local celebrity by breaking all the stereotypes that were subjected to the girls.
The girl from a small Kerala town who became a powerlifter by breaking all norms and stereotypes that too wearing Hijab makes her achievement even more applaudable. Last year, in 2017. The girl was very much inclined towards the fitness and athletics field and since her childhood. She had all those dreams, but the kind of passion which is required to pull herself arouse in her in the year 2016, when she finally decided to take it seriously to a good level.
She said, “The village I live in did not have any facilities back then and my seeing my interest in fitness, my parents often inquired about activities in other towns,” she also expressed her family support which the family always made from behind her back, who encouraged her to explore and find her interests.”
The problems she faced in her training period never pulled her back from pursuing her dream and due to lack of some facilities during her yearly summer break, she started traveling to a training gymnasium in Kozhikode, which was 60 km away from her hometown, the lady also said a line on this, “I travelled 120 km every day, except on Sundays.”
In earlier of this year 2018, she actively participated and won Mr Kerala competition organised by Body Building Association Of Kerala and Sports Council Of Kerala- making this a historical record as she is the only women to do it in a hijab, well for many of us who are stick under the boundary of the stereotypes hijab might be limited but she made an identity with her scarf.
Bhanu in her statement said, “I reached the international stage with my hijab and if I could do that, I don’t think there is any reason for me to stop wearing that now, since its a part of my identity, its who I am.”
