Growing up, Malikaa was just like a normal child, until she was diagnosed with a disorder. This is a condition where one has vision issues because of the mind and eye not functioning together. She was suffering from this in her right eye and to reinforce that eye, she needed to wear a patch to her left side eye as per The Frustrated Indian. She needed to do this for a long time, which implies as a feature of the treatment she had an extremely poor vision for those years.

It wasn’t that easy for Malikaa but she did not lose hope and went on to follow her dream of excelling to become a world-class tennis player. Self-driven and self-motivated, she underwent training with a determination that was beyond her age.

As per Youth Ki Awaaz, India is a country where convincing a family to spend on a girl child is not that easy but the Indian government’s attitude towards any sport other than cricket is appalling. This is, even more, the case when it comes to sports that women are involved in.

Dipa Karmark is the best example of this who nearly did not participate in the Olympic Games because of a lack of funding. In such a scenario, girls like Malikaa act as a constant source of hope for others to emulate.

India is rapidly growing and is concentrating on girl empowerment and because of this, we have seen many girls who have made their name in the different fields making our country proud. India needs more such girls who can be an inspiration to many. Hats off to Malikaa Marathe!
