The Mumbai Police these days have become more alert due to the on-going health crisis. With the city becoming the hotspot for the majority of the positive cases, cautiousness has become necessary. On Monday, at least five men were punished by the Mumbai Police for allegedly trying to enter the sea at Marine Drive in south Mumbai.

The report state that a group of men tried to enter the water while doing so they were spotted by the police personnel patrolling the area. Following the incident, the policemen asked these men to do ‘murga walk’ (chicken walk) as a punishment. The group of men was allowed to leave after being given a warning about safety.

The video of the incident has been making rounds on the internet, saying that these men were punished for not wearing masks. The report states, “Violators made to do ‘Murga Walk’ by police at Marine Drive promenade for not wearing masks.”

In the now-viral video, the five men can be seen doing the murgi walk in front of the Mumbai Police. As the video is taking the internet by storm, the official Twitter handle of Mumbai Police responded by saying, “There is a legal provision for action on every violation and that’s the only punitive action that can be taken. The matter is being enquired by senior officers and necessary action will be definitely taken.”

Source claims that according to Senior Inspector Vishawanath Kolekar of Marine Drive station, the group of men was punished for trying to enter the water from the promenade and putting themselves in danger and not for violating the mask rule.

Furthermore, the senior inspector added that the whole incident is being investigated and action against the violators will be taken soon.

No more information is available about the incident but the punishment surely has warned other people who were thinking to do the same.
