On Sunday, the Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari urged vehicle owners to immediately adopt FASTag. He also added that the deadline for the e-payment facility won’t be extended. For the unknown, FASTags facilitates electronic payment of fees at toll plazas.
This e-payment facility was introduced in 2016. By making the FASTags compulsory for every vehicle owner, it will help in ensuring that vehicles pass seamlessly through the toll plazas. It will be possible as the fee payment will be done electronically.
Mr. Gadkari also addressed the queries on FASTags at the Nagpur airport. Speaking of the same, he said that the government had extended the FASTag registration date limit two-three times before. However, the deadline won’t be extended further. He urged every vehicle owner to immediately buy FASTag.
For the unknown, the FASTag registration has gone up to 90 percent on some routes and only 10 percent of people are left. The FASTags are also available at the toll plazas and people should purchase and use them, as it aids in seamless traffic.
The FASTag deadline for the vehicles was from January 1, 2021, to February 15, 2021, by the Central Government.
Furthermore, the road and transport ministry also said that vehicles passing through NH toll plazas without a FASTag from midnight of February 15-16 will have to pay the double toll charges.
The road and transport ministry said, “As per the NH Fee Rules 2008, any vehicle not fitted with FASTag or vehicle without valid, functional FASTag entering into the FASTag lane of the fee plaza shall pay a fee equivalent to two times of the fee applicable to the category.
The new FASTag facility has been adopted to promote fee payment through digital mode. This will also reduce time spent in waiting and fuel consumption. The major benefit of the e-payment facility is the seamless passage through the fee plazas.
