Global icon, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, talked about the positive impact of the boom in streaming services at an event recently.
Priyanka said that streaming platforms have allowed us to come up with more diverse stories. These can cater to a specific group of people too unlike big banner films which have to be made keeping the interest of a lot of people in mind. In her opinion, streaming platforms have democratized the film industry.
Priyanka herself made her digital debut on Netflix with the critically acclaimed and Emmy nominated The White Tiger this year. She also said that these have helped makers think of more rather than just stick to the Bollywood film formula of 5 songs, an action scene, etc. Now people can tell more diverse stories and make a better connection.
Priyanka talked about all this while speaking at a virtual press conference for the launch of the streaming platform ZEE5′ in the United States of America. The launch announcement was made by Archana Anand, Chief Business Officer, ZEE5 Global.
The White Tiger actress said that the sudden boom of these platforms have led to more opportunities for people, as actors as well as storytellers. She said “It’s amazing because it gives new writers, actors, filmmakers an opportunity to come into an industry that was monopolized for a long time by very specific number of people. It’s a great time for growth, entertainment and specifically for Indian cinema,” she added.
