Nitin Gadkari had said on Saturday that the reservations will not guarantee jobs as the jobs are shrinking due to advancement in technology. He said, “Let’s us assume the reservation is given. But there are no jobs. Because in banks, the jobs have shrunk because of IT. The government recruitment is frozen. Where are the jobs?”

This remark was made after the ongoing agitation by Marathas for reservation. The BJP leader further said,  “The problem with the quota is that backwardness is becoming a political interest. Everyone says I am backward. In Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, Brahmins are strong. They dominate politics. (And) They say they are backward.”

“So one school of thought is that a poor is a poor, he has no caste, creed or language. Whatever may be the religion — the Muslim, the Hindu or the Maratha (a caste), in all communities there is one section which has no clothes to wear, no food to eat,” said Gadkari.

Taking a jibe at Nitin Gadkari over his ‘Where are the jobs’ comment, Congress President Rahul Gandhi said, “Excellent question Gadkari Ji. Every Indian is asking the same question.”

However, Gadkari urged the responsible political parties to not add fuel to fire.

We all know that our country is going through a heavy employment crisis. The unemployment rate is just rising day be day. We have educated unemployed people in every second household. A few months back, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a comment on the same issue which didn’t go well with people. Modi said that selling pakoras is also a form of employment. In the parliament, Amit Shah supported his statement and  said there is no shame in selling ‘pakodas’. “It is better to sell ‘pakodas’ than remain unemployed. Selling ‘pakodas’ is not a matter of shame. It’s a shame that P Chidambaram is comparing it with begging.”
