Superstar Rajinikanth and a politician who announced his entry into politics last December (Party name and symbol are yet to be decided) – came up in the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “One Nation One Election” concept and said this concept will save time and money both. “One Nation One Election” is an idea that suggests holding simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
Rajinikanth while talking to the reporters said, “It is nice and good… Time and money will be completely saved. All parties should work together and co-operate”. Further adding he said, “It would be good if all political parties understood (the advantages) and cooperate in facilitating simultaneous polls”.
Talking to reporters here, he also supported the proposed Rs 10,000 crore greenfield Chennai-Salem eight-lane highway, being opposed by some quarters, and said such big projects should be taken up for the development of the country.
Earlier this month, at a meeting with the Law Commission, most opposition parties have raised objections to the idea of simultaneous elections saying that it would be against federal principles and not feasible in the current situation.
Congress leaders have rubbished the Prime Minister’s argument that simultaneous elections would cut down the cost of elections in terms of both time and money. The cost of all elections in the country put together will be less than the cost incurred by PM Modi on “self-promotion” they said.
Only Tamil Nadu’s AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam), Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti came in some support for the One Nation One Election.
At the Law Commission meeting, Tamil Nadu’s AIADMK had said holding the two polls together is “desirable” but certain “practical” and “serious” issues need to be settled first. The party said simultaneous elections cannot be held before 2024, if at all.
Akhilesh Yadav said the BJP should implement ‘one nation one election’ “from 2019 and hold UP assembly polls with the 2019 Lok Sabha elections”.
When asked about his entry into Politics as his full-time job he said, “only time can tell that”.
We hope when Rajini enters the politics he would do the same or near to same what he does in his movies about politics. He will be next seen 2.0 movie alongside Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson.
