The much awaited Love Aaj Kal starring Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan has finally hit the theaters. The film is a sequel to the 2009 film by the same name, that starred Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone in lead roles. While fans were anxious to watch the rumored couple Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan in the film, the film has opened to terrible reviews.
Kartik, who has had a number of hits before, (except of course Kaanchi directed by Subhash Ghai!)is a good actor if directed well and given the right roles. He’s probably made the worst choice by doing Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal, here’s why.
Reason Number One
It is very difficult for the audience to digest the fact that Kartik Aaryan grows up to become Reandeep Hooda!
Reason Number Two
The monologue man Kartik Aryan does not have a monologue in Love Aaj Kal and that’s where he fails miserably when it comes to emoting the Imatiaz Ali kind of intense scenes. He somehow looks like a misfit in this film.
Reason Number Three
Kartik Aaryan trying to look wise and mouthing verses from Rumi and Kabir is unconvincing and lacks the intensity and feel that is necessary. But Kartik Aaryan who has successfully played the flawed hero roles earlier is somehow not very successful in playing the Imtiaz Ali sensibility of a flawed character.
Reason Number Four
Kartik Aryan as Raghu (young Randeep Hooda) tries too hard to play the typical lanky small town boy, even his body language is wrong.
Reason Number Five
Kartik looks uncomfortable in his role all through the film. However, it is not Kartik but a messed up script to be blamed. I wonder why Kartik didn’t raise his voice and say yeh script aur screenplay mujhe tang karne laga hain!
Having said that, it’s not just Kartik, but every character in the film, including Sara Ali Khan seem to be overacting. Some of the camera angles, especially Sara’s close ups keep you wondering if anyone was watching the monitor at all!
By the end of the film, I really needed that detox drink that Randeep Hooda aka Raghu fixes for Sara Ali Khan in the movie.
