Actor turned model Milind Soman’s wife Ankita Konwar, spoke about tackling the ‘society’s stereotype’ regarding marrying an older man. She said that she does what makes her happy and doesn’t care about the society’s taboo.
On Wednesday, Ankita who is very active on social media and has a huge fan base, conducted an Ask Me Anything session on Instagram. Among the many questions, one fan asked, “How did you tackle/manage this Indian stereotype of ‘don’t marry an older man’?
To this Ankita gave an elaborate and informed response, she wrote, “Anything that’s uncommon in a society, people usually like to talk about it and it is not just limited to India. We as species have this tendency to get weird about unknown, the unexplored aka fear…sometimes, we are not conscious enough to distinguish between the utility and the waste of that skill.” She concluded, “I have always done what makes me happy.”
A lot of questions asked where about her relationship and situation of marriage. Another fan asked, “It’s been years since your marriage, what do you think about family planning.” She gave a witty reply, “we are planned family, next.”
Milind Soman and Ankita Konwar got married in 2018 in Mumbai. The two have an age gap of 26 years which brought a lot of public criticisms. Addressing the issue, Milind had said, “I think everybody should be free to choose who they love and like. It should be based on what they feel in the heart and has nothing to do with the society.”
