In a recent interview, actress Priya Ahuja, who portrayed the famous role of Rita Reporter on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, slammed the makers for “unfair” treatment and a toxic work environment that was bad for artists.
The actress, who has been a part of the show since its inception, hasn’t been seen in a few months. Priya stated that she was discarded from the show without explanation. Priya, who was hitched to the show’s director, Malav Rajda, for 14 years, talks about the workplace in an interaction with the Times of India.
She said that since her director husband had a steady job, things did not affect her that much as he was earning but said that her role on the programme had been. She also added, “Yes, the artists have to go through mental harassment when they work on Taarak Mehta. Asit Kumarr Modi bhai, Sohil Ramani or Jatin Bajaj (he’s like my younger brother) they never misbehaved with me.” She also stated that she had been treated unfairly at work.
The actress said she was unaware of her track even after her spouse left the show. Priya stated that she contacted the makers for clarification but received no answer. She also recalled how the show’s producer Asit Modi would pass sexist remarks.
“Asit bhai has told me this many a times ‘Malav is earning then why do you have to worry. You enjoy life like a queen…,’” the actor recalled. She went on to say that she was disappointed that she did not receive basic respect despite working with the team for 14 years.
